James Mahan Adams

James M. Adams, 80, of Butner, North Carolina, passed away March 31, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer.

Jimmy was born in Denver, Colorado on September 11,1941 to the late Aubrey R. and Addie T. Adams. He graduated from Northern High School in Durham.

Even though James retired from GTE (General Telephone Company), he continued to work at various communications companies until he decided to pursue other interests. He was a founding member of the Lord Granville Agricultural Heritage Association, a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Butner, as well as an active member of the Butner Planning Board for numerous years. Jimmy loved his work with the Men in Action group that built ramps for those in need.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church in Butner.

He leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Dempsey (Pat); two daughters, Carol Pruitt, Tonya Martinez (Rogelio); one son, James “Chris” Adams (Sheila); and 5 grandchildren: Justin Pruitt, Kevin Martinez, Briley Adams, Makayla Adams, and Kierston Adams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda E. Adams and his two sisters, Audrey and Ann.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00PM at First Baptist Church in Butner.

Flowers are accepted at First Baptist Church, 200 West D Street, Butner, NC 27509 or donations can be made to First Baptist Church Men in Action, PO Box 44, Butner, NC 27509.
