
Evelyn Miles Marshburn
Evelyn Miles Marshburn, 82, of Butner passed away Tuesday, March 22,2022 at her home.
Evelyn was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to the late Clarence B. Miles and Edna Vaughan Miles. She graduated from Stovall High School in 1957 at age 17 and began working at John Umstead Hospital in 1958. Evelyn married James Alderman “Jamie” Marshburn Jr. in July of 1961 at Butner Baptist Church. Evelyn retired from John Umstead Hospital in 1988 and attended Vance Granville Community College to obtain her degree as a registered nurse. After graduation, she began working at Durham Regional Hospital, Cardiology Unit where she worked until she medically retired in 1993. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and attending her son’s and grandson’s sporting events. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Butner and the XYZ Club. She was loved dearly and will be missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 25,2022 from 12:30 – 1:45 PM at First Baptist Church of Butner.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, James A. “Butch” Marshburn, III; two grandsons, Jacob Ross Browning (Nicole) and James Clayton Marshburn; two sisters, Carolyn M. Curl and Helen M. Blackwell, three nieces, one nephew, ten great-nieces and nephews; her two dearest and best friends, Betty Aiken and Barbara King and a special friend and caregiver, Nancy Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alderman “Jamie” Marshburn Jr.; two brothers, Melvin C. Miles and C. Clinton Miles and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25,2022 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Butner officiated by Dr. Charlie Bryan. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
