



Nona Cone Spencer
Nona Cone Spencer, 89, of Granville County, passed away Saturday, January 8,2022 surrounded by family.
Nona was born in Nash County to the late Raudy Cone and Lola Bissette Cone. She graduated high school from Middlesex School in Nash County and went on to attend East Carolina University where she earned her bachelor of science in education. She taught school in Halifax County, VA. Nona married Nathan Herbert “Herb” Spencer in 1960. They lived in Richmond, VA, Weldon, NC, Durham, NC and eventually landed in Butner. After raising a family, Nona went back to work as a book keeper at John Umstead Hospital in Butner. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting and baking.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Patsy Thieken (Paul); her son, Doug Spencer (Claudia); six grandchildren, Nicole (Joe), Scott, Colin, Nathan, Emma and Connor and her sister, Sarah Bonneau. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Herbert “Herb” Spencer; a sister, Ruby Strickland and six brothers, Randolph Cone, Julian Cone, Ray Cone, Pete Cone, Arbuth Cone and Jack Cone.
Graveside services will be held Friday, January, 14,2022 at 2:00 PM Carolina Memorial Gardens officiated by Dr. Charlie Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her honor to First Baptist Church in Butner at PO Box 44, Butner NC 27509.

My deep condolences. Nona and I worked together at JUH . I admired her talents, love for Herb and much pride in her family. I know she will be missed but like me her memories live on. We shared some special days a. May you have a pain free life in heaven
