Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Michael Thomas Peachey

Michael Thomas Peachey, 48, passed away suddenly of natural causes and among loved ones on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at his home in Oxford, North Carolina.

Born on June 12th, 1973 at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, he was the son of Emily Peachey and the late Thomas Peachey. He studied at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. During much of his professional career in Raleigh, Michael applied his natural gift for science and computer programming toward support of medical genetic technologies.

In addition to his career, Mike was an enthusiast of music. He practiced several instruments and performed handbells in the Music Ministry program at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. He enjoyed nature, and the open countryside. He was as comfortable developing new information technologies as he was cultivating his gardens and nurturing life from the soil. He shone brightest, however, in his treasured role of father to his two daughters who he shared with his former spouse, Taryn Peachey. In 2020, Michael moved to Oxford, North Carolina with his long-term life partner Erik Robert Funderburk where they restored and tended the ranch that he would come to call The Shire.

Mike was a man of peace and gentleness who embodied the very soul of kindness and compassion. His efforts to help lift the homeless to stability as a board member of Families Together was tireless and his contributions to charitable organizations were many. His generosity of spirit was intermingled with his quick wit and gracious sense of humor.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Thomas Peachey. He is survived by his life partner Erik Robert Funderburk, daughters Kathryn “Katy” Peachey and Sarabeth Peachey, mother Emily Peachey, brother Andy Peachey (Janina), nieces Corrina and Bella Peachey, and former spouse Taryn Peachey.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Michael at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Raleigh, North Carolina. The service will be at 11 on Saturday, November 6th. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Michael Peachey’s name to Families Together at . Please include Mike’s name in the comments of the donation page.

Mike, I was so sorry to hear of your passing. While we ran in parallel friends circles at the valley, you were always the sweetest person to all you met. I enjoyed the time in clarinet choir with you, and was always in awe of.your talent. Fly with the angles, and may God watch your family and bring them peace.

Mike will be missed more than he ever knew he could be. His willingness to do anything for anybody, his laughter, and his varied talents were some of his greatest assets. His love and care for our daughter and granddaughters, Taryn, Katy, and Sarabeth, could not be matched. We will be praying for Emily, Andy, Janina, Corrina, Bella, and Robb, as they swim through uncharted waters, as well. This is still surreal to all of us. Share your musical talents with the choirs and bands in heaven, Mike, and we’ll see you again.

Mike was a treasure of a nephew. He was kind to everyone at our family gatherings. He was good at carrying on a conversation and enjoyed a good laugh. My daughter remembers that he wrote letters to her when she was young. May his family be filled with God’s peace.

I am still feeling numb after hearing this very news. Peachey is one of the kindest, patient and super intelligent colleagues I have been blessed to work with and get to know. He could find common interest to converse with from everyone he met. No doubt he heard the Lord’s voice say “ Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant.” I will truly miss his smile and confidence he encouraged in me. My deepest prayers are prayed for his family
