Robert “Bob” Cecil Haynie


Robert “Bob” Cecil Haynie, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away September 18, 2021. The son of Edna Hensley and Donald Haynie, Bob grew up in Marshall, North Carolina.
He was born November 20, 1927 in the mountains of Madison County, N.C. and attended Walnut High School. At the age of 17, Bob “ran away from home” and enlisted in the Navy. He was a diesel mechanic and served on numerous ships and submarines, including the USS Sellstrom and USS Sturtevant.  He valued this service highly and proudly wore his Navy baseball cap every day.  After retirement from the Navy he enjoyed driving a tour bus for Trailways for many years all over the United States.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; daughter, Shannon; brother, Cleo Shelton and grandson, Danny.  He is survived by son, Donald “Skeeter” Haynie of Hagerstown, MD; and sister, Christene Emory of Butner, NC; nieces Charline Emory of Roxboro, Vorita Wennermark (James) of Oxford and Patricia Johnson (Danny) of Myrtle Beach, SC;  step-daughter Sarah Richards of Silver Spring, MD; stepsons James F Biggs of Kearneysville, WV, Glenn D Biggs of Cinnaminson, NJ; step-grandchildren John Richards, Jacqueline Richards, Bradley Biggs, Natalie Biggs-Roca, Elizabeth Biggs; and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey.  A memorial service will be held at a later date at Butner First Baptist Church.
