Lou Dove Kapherr

Lou Dove Kapherr, 94, of Creedmoor North Carolina died peacefully at Duke University Medical Center on Tuesday August 31, 2021

Fanny Lou Dove was born on November 25, 1926 to the late George Houston Dove and Burma Hester Dove of Granville County, North Carolina.

Growing up in Creedmoor, she graduated from Creedmoor High School in 1942 and immediately went to work serving the soldiers of WWII at the Camp Butner Hospital. After the war, she was employed as a transcriptionist/bookkeeper by Dr. Ralph G. Fleming of Durham, and later as a medical secretary with Triangle Orthopedics until her retirement.

Lou met her husband Joe, of Memphis Tn, at Wrightsville Beach in 1951. She was vacationing with friends and Joe, in the Army/Air Force, was stationed at Fort Bragg awaiting deployment to Korea. Upon his return from war, they were married in Creedmoor on September 6th, 1952.

Joe and Lou welcomed Joseph William Kapherr Jr. in 1957 and Katherine Louise Kapherr in 1959. Lou always found time to participate, support or take the lead role in her children’s activities.

Joe and Lou were lifelong members of Creedmoor United Methodist Church. As a regular attendee, she actively served on various committees and held many leadership roles throughout the years. Lou spent hours playing board games with her young grandchildren, enjoyed the challenge of a cross word puzzle, and genuinely loved playing Bridge with her friends each Tuesday. She thoroughly enjoyed travel with Joe’s work and later with friends on guided group tours here and abroad.

One of Lou’s greatest joys was becoming “Mama Lou” to her grandchildren and great grandchild. She championed their growth and accomplishments with intense pride.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Creedmoor United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Dr. Jonathan Jeffries. Burial will follow in the Creedmoor Cemetery.

She is survived by her son Joseph William Kapherr, Jr. (Dianne) of Creedmoor, NC. Grandsons William Houston Kapherr (Lindsey) of Creedmoor, NC, and Allen Joseph Kapherr (Rebecca) of Willington, NC, a great grandson Lane Joseph Kapherr, and her sister Sue (Dove) Garner, of Creedmoor, NC.

She is preceded in death by husband Joseph William Kapherr Sr. and daughter Katherine Louise Kapherr.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Creedmoor United Methodist Church or the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford.

The family would like to thank you for your kindness, thoughtfulness and support during this difficult time. We extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of Duke University Medical Center for their compassion and care during mom’s stay.
