Christopher George Gresham


Chris went peacefully to his heavenly home on June 5, 2021. He was born in Oxford to George and Irene Gresham. His greatest passions in life were his wife of almost 50 years, Cathy; his children, grandchildren and beloved dog Abby. He loved spending time with his family and Sunday lunches with children and grandchildren was a family tradition.

Chris loved bluegrass music and travelled to as many Bluegrass festivals as possible and he and Cathy developed friends in several states that enjoyed bluegrass with him. Chris also had a passion for cooking and was well known for his barbecue skills. He loved living on his farm surrounded by his family and enjoyed watching his cows grow.

Chris was a lifetime member of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, member of Cemetery Committee, Building and Grounds Committee and was instrumental in restarting the Brotherhood.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, three children, Tonya Pendergrass (Tony) of Bracey, VA; Kimberly Jackson (Wayne) and Michael Gresham (Chrissy) of Oxford. Six grandchildren Denis Pendergrass, USAF, Germany, Kat Pendergrass, Daniil Pendergrass, Krystal Parrish, Chance Gresham and Bryson Gresham. Three sisters, Ellen Philpott of Martinsville, VA, Carolyn Morford (Craig) and Connie Adcock (David) of Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene.

A celebration of life will be held at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 8th at 2:00 PM. You may access the celebration of life service by clicking on the following link:

Burial service will follow the Celebration of Life in the Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. You may access the burial service by clicking on the following link:

Family will accept visitors in fellowship hall immediately following the service and other times at the home.

    Went all 12 grades in school and since then. He was a fine man and will be missed.

    Cathy and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers as you all find your way during this difficult time. His obituary showed he was a good Christain man. I pray the family will remember his love of the Lord and the love he shared with his family. God bless.

    Cathy & family ; you are in my thoughts and prayers! Chris & I were classmates & friends in school ! In 1970 , I left Oxford to work for Roses , in Columbia, SC ! I was lonely ! Chris called me from the no. 2 store & invited me to dinner ! Thanks to him I finished the Management Training program ! Chris was a fine Christian Man ! I look forward to seeing him in Heaven !     I am saddened by Chris’ passing. In high school, I knew him to be a quiet, soft spoken student and a likeable guy but only saw him sporadically after that. His obit tells of a life we all should aspire to….loving God and family.

    You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Chris was a great brother, husband and father. I was proud to call him my friend. He lived a Christian life. He loved God and walked with him and now he is at peace with Him. God bless you.
