Crawford Maurice Knott

C. Maurice Knott, 91, died peacefully at home December 10, 2020. Born March 21, 1929, he was the only child of the late C.F. and Elsie Pruitt Knott of Granville County.

After two years at NC State College (now NCSU) in Raleigh, Maurice married the late Mary Rose Currin Knott. In addition to working on his family farm, he was in the dairy business and in home construction before going to work at the USDA Tobacco Research Station in Oxford. He also enjoyed his second job of refereeing high school football and basketball games across the state for many years. Maurice spent most of the last 30+ years of retirement either farming or woodworking.

A lifetime member of Enon Baptist Church, Maurice served God in many capacities over the years. One of his favorite events was the annual Brunswick Stew sale, which raised money to help with college education expenses, first at Campbell University then later for Enon’s own young people. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Enon Baptist Church, for the Maurice and Mary Rose Knott Scholarship Fund. (Please send to Mike Adcock at 1515 Lewis Jones Rd, Oxford NC 27565)

Surviving are 3 children: Crawford A. Knott and fiancée Patsy of Oxford, Marsha K. Cowart and husband Dwight of Wrightsville Beach, and C.F. Knott and wife Suzanne of Oxford; 5 grandchildren: Meredith C. Kitchell (Collin) of Vero Beach FL, Maxwell Cowart of Wilmington, Jake Knott (Laura) of Raleigh, Matt Knott (Brittni) of Greensboro, and Joseph Knott of Oxford; and 2 great-grandchildren: Currin Kitchell and Wells Knott.

The family is thankful for the services of Kindred Hospice and for the caregivers of Robeson Adult Home Healthcare and especially grateful for the many acts of kindness shown by friends and family over the past five months.

Due to Covid-19 related health restrictions, a private family service will be held at a future date.

I am sorry for the loss of your dad. I had not seen him in a long time, but I remember his wit. He would say something funny and then the way he would grin after he said it. We are praying for you and your families.

Dearest Marsha: Through the years, you and I have shared a bond in the love and care of our families. I personally witnessed the exceptional relationship you had with your mom and dad; and because of our firm belief in Jesus’ promise that your dad is in Heaven, I pray for your comfort and peace, and for your entire family. All my love and best wishes. Kathy

C F I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Knott when he was harvesting his tobacco crop. I know what you are going through because I’ve been there. Always treasure the beautiful memories that you shared with your parents. No more pain and suffering he’s at peace now. He’s Gone But Will Never Be Forgotten.
