Michelle Gray Campbell

Michelle Gray Campbell, 40, a lifelong resident of Granville County, returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Michelle was the daughter of Ross and Debbie Gray. She was an active and devoted member of Oxford Baptist Church and was immersed in a Christian community that was her lifelong support from an early age. Michelle was blessed with three beautiful children. She has raised them with patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of their faith. She graduated from J.F. Webb High School and went on to get her Bachelors degree from East Carolina University. She worked at Smart Start as a Reading Readiness Coordinator with the literacy program for many years. She was kind and compassionate and had a zest for life that could be felt by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by so many, who find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace.

Other than her parents, Michelle is survived by three beautiful children; Haleigh Grace (11), Hunter (9) and Brooklyn (6), her grandmother; Ruth Williamson, Hunter Campbell, Charity Campbell as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and an endless number of friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oxford Baptist Church Music Ministry, P.O. Box 398 Oxford, NC 27565 or contributions to Michelle Campbell’s children’s trust fund at Union Bank.

My heart is breaking upon learning of Michelle’s passing. I met Michelle in grad school. We lost touch afterwards, but she found me years later on Facebook. She and I both had our sons the same week and kept in touch through the past several years. What I will remember most about her was her sweet, southern accent and most of all her warm smile! I will miss her and pray for those precious children.

At a time when we can’t gather to comfort this family, words seem weak but they are heartfelt. This young woman was a true example of strength, love and beauty. A quiet, gentle person is gracing heaven today.

We did not know Michelle personally but from reading comments and posts, we did not need to know her personally to know that she was a beautiful, loving, and caring person. All these words have spoken with volume and are a wonderful tribute to Michelle. Debbie and Ross, our hearts ache for you and the children, our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time.

They say that when you hear a bell ring than an angel gets there wings. Michele has that and so much more. It is said that we each have a gift that only you can give, we all have been touched by Michele and the gifts God gave her. Count that as a blessing. We will see her again when we all get home and we will remember her as we all care ,pray, and watch Haliegh, Hunter Jr and Brooklyn grow up. For her parents we ask that they find comfort in knowing how much she loved them. She often shared how grateful she was to have so much. She lived life as she believed God meant her to. For all of us that were blessed to have been around her, we can say that there are angels among us. She believed it was better to forgive than to be right. She has gone ahead to prepare for the day we all see her again. For her family and children and friends, we ask that you love each other as she loved you.

Dear Debbie and Ross, words are so inadequate at this time. We loved Michelle and supported her and will continue to support all of you through the upcoming trials and difficult months ahead. You know how much we love you both and Th e children. They are so precious and so loved by so many. Michelle also knew how loved they are. We are here for you and I will visit once things settle a little. Brooklyn has been taken care of and the three have a nurturing school community who will always be there for them in all of their years there. We love you all and continue to hold you all in our thoughts and prayers. She fought the battles and she won the war! She is safe with her Heavenly Father!
