Margaret Beatrice Coley


Margaret Beatrice Coley, 80, a lifelong resident of Granville County passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Hock Family Pavilion.

She was the daughter of the late Haywood Howell Coley and Alma Ellen Cox. She was of the Baptist faith and was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Margaret retired from John Umstead Hospital, Children’s Psychiatric Unit where she worked as a nurse for many years. She volunteered with Berea Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary and assisted with delivering meals with the Granville County Senior Services.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Reverend Tim Atkinson and Reverend Keith Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Margaret is survived by two sons; Randy Hancock (Cynthia) of Berea and William Wheeler Jr. (Frances) of Oxford, three granddaughters; Brandy Hester (Steve), Christina Wheeler and Anna Wheeler; one grandson; Colby Hancock; two great-grandchildren; Brieana and Peyton Hester. She was preceded in death by two brothers; James and Howell Coley.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12:30-1:45 PM and other times at the home of William and Frances Wheeler.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church youth program, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford, NC 27565 or Hock Family Pavilion, 3064 Roxboro Rd., Durham, NC 27707.

    I am truly sorry for your loss… my heart is with you through this difficult transition… my prayers for comfort and peace… Margaret was one of the first in Berea to make me feel welcome and she has always held and will continue to hold a very special place in my heart…
