Elvin Limuel Hart
Elvin Limuel Hart, 86, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at his home. A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Joseph Spencer Hart and Lula Beasley Hart.
Elvin was a faithful Christian, Husband, Father, Son, Brother and Friend. He worked hard to support his church, his family and the community, He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, and was in the Army Reserves for 6 years, He drove a tanker truck for Pine State Creamery for a number of years and was a Research Technician at the Tobacco Research Station until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a courier for the Granville County School System.
Elvin was a member of Peace’s Chapel Church and served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and in any capacity to support the congregation and community. He taught Sunday school at Toney Rest Home for about 9 years and spent many Saturday mornings sharing his faith at the prison in Oxford. He was a member of Gideon’s International until his health no longer permitted him to serve.
Elvin was always a hard worker and did whatever was needed to support his family. He taught by example about loyalty, commitment, finishing the job at hand and always putting God first. He loved farming and always had a huge garden that was shared with friends in the community.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Nell Howell Hart of the home; a daughter, Judy Hart Thomas (Gary) of Durham, two sons, Bruce Hart (Betsy) of Kittrell, David Hart (Crystal) of Creedmoor; a sister, Gladys Godsey of Oxford; five grandchildren, Daniel Hart (Brandi), Joseph Hart, Lauren Thomas, William Thomas, Ethan Hart; and one great grandchild, Liam Hart. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Graham Hart, Calvin Hart and by three sisters, Irma Hart, Irene Gresham, and Edna Godsey.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Bruce Brooks and grandson, Joseph Hart. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
