Robert “Bobby” Whitfield

Robert “Bobby” Whitfield, 90, of Creedmoor, NC, died Friday, November 22, 2019 at his home.

Bobby was born February 4, 1929 in Creedmoor, NC to Wilbur and Marjorie Whitfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Nita and his sister, Nancy W. Darden Bellamy. Surviving are his children; Paula Ellington (Robert), Carla Mangum (Ronald), Craig Whitfield (Ann) and Robin Newton (Randy); two granddaughters, Kristin Fisher (Brian), Lindsey Kapherr (Will), two great grandsons and his brother, Douglas Whitfield (Fran).

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday November 24, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Creedmoor by Rev. Jim Shelley, Dr. Tom Jenkins and Rev. David Richardson. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:45 PM in the church sanctuary and at other times at the home. Burial will follow the funeral service in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Bobby and Nita were married on July 12, 1953 and raised four children. He loved the Lord, his family and friends. Bobby was a hard working man who enjoyed visiting with his customers and joking around. He loved being outside and mowing grass. People were always saying they saw him mowing the yard or the pasture. One of his favorite times was when he was volunteering with First Baptist Church of Creedmoor at Orange County Speedway working in concessions to help raise money for the Family Life Center. Bobby taught us to be honest, treat people with kindness and love.

Bobby owned and operated Granville Milling Company from 1954 to 1991 when his son took over the business. Bobby continued to assist with the business until his health declined.

Bobby was an active Member of First Baptist Church of Creedmoor until his health declined.

Bobby’s love and support for his family will always remain in their hearts. His children and family were blessed by him. We love you Daddy and will miss you.

Paula, Carla, Craig, Robin and the Whitfield family, I was sadden when I heard the news of the passing of your father. He was such a caring and loving person to all. A poem I would like to share, The title is (No Tears past the Gate), author unknown
    No Tears Past the Gate
Someone new has entered our eternal home above.
The Heavenly gate has opened wide, to welcome the one you love.
We cannot helped the tears that fall, our hearts need time to grieve.
When eternally life has ended and a love one has to leave.
Yet even in the saddest time, we know our Savior lives.
And we can trust completely, in the promised that He gives.
Someday, in a glad reunion with the Lord, our love one wait,
To welcome us with Joy and no more tears beyond the gate.
    Love you all……

    Paula, Carla, Craig and Robin
I was very sadden to hear about the loss of your sweet and loving dad. He was a one-of-a kind person who treated everyone with genuine care and compassion.
I have many fond memories of working with him cutting and splitting wood for the wood heater, loading pork shoulders on the grill Sunday afternoons, unloading train cars of animal feed, and working on warehouse additions to the Mill. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolence for your loss and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss.

Robert and I are so sorry for your loss. Bobby was a good man, known by many from his businesses as well as friends in church and community. Another cousin gone to be with our Lord, as all the remaining ones are trying to “hold our own”! Bobby will be missed by friends and certainly by his loving family. We are sorry we could not be at his funeral, but neither of us were feeling well enough to come. Your entire family will remain in our continued thoughts and prayers.
