Chester Daniel Johnson, Jr.

 

Chester Daniel Johnson, Jr., 74, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at his home. He was born January 13, 1945 in Clarksville, Va. to the late Lora Morrison Johnson and Chester D. Johnson, Sr. Chester worked on the tobacco market and Burlington Industries in Oxford for most of his life. He enjoyed coon and squirrel hunting and attending the American Plott Association hunt meetings. He also enjoyed working in his garden and especially sharing his garden with others. He was a lifetime member of the American Plott Association. Chester was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir director and Sunday school teacher.

Chester is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janie Burnette Johnson of the home, two daughters Tracy Atkins and her husband Andy of Dobson, NC. and Wendy Johnson of the home, two sisters, Wanda Thompson of Boydton, VA. and Anita Chandler of Clarksville, Va., three grandchildren, Samantha Atkins, Lydia Atkins and Daniel Atkins and one feisty puppy dog-Toby.

A time of family visitation will be at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and other times at the home.
The family invites family and friends to join them at Providence Baptist Church on Sunday, November 10, 2019 for a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Dr. Randy Pittman, Rev. Jane Lyons, and Rev. Kenneth Johnson will lead the service. Burial will be private.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the nurses and certified nurse assistants of Kindred at Home Hospice for their care and compassion in caring for Chester.

Memorial gifts may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 4603 Old Route 75, Oxford, NC 27565, attention Tonya Perry. Flowers will be accepted.

    Janie,Wendy ,Tracy and family so sorry for the loss of your love one Chester was a very dedicated Christian man who loved his family and the Lord.I know you all will miss him but God will give you strength to deal with his loss. You all will be in our prayers.Love you all.God Bless!

    I am so sorry to hear of Chester’s death. I worked with Chester at Burlington Industries for quite a few years. I always enjoyed talking with Chester about his coon hunting and always having a coon luncheon at work. Those were good days as we were a close group. I pray God will comfort you as only He can.
