James Howard Champion


James Howard Champion, 87, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Tuesday October 29, 2019 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.

Howard was a native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Sidney C. Champion and Helen Cash. He was retired from EMS and was owner-operator of Champion’s Upholstery for 56 years.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Tungsten Baptist Church by Reverend Sam Brewer and Rev. Kevin Champion. Burial will be in the Tungsten Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 3,2019 from 1:00 to 2:45 at Tungsten Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-seven years, Allie Reece Champion of the home, two sons, Rev. Kevin Champion of Shelby and Scott Champion of the home, four sisters, Virginia Morton, Faye Jones, Linda Fox and Betsy Lovings (Robert), four brothers, Donald Champion, Clifton Champion (Gayle) , Larry Champion and Steve Champion (Denise), two granddaughters, Kimberly Cox (Cody) and Allison Bott (Thomas) and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Bott and Joshua Cox. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Howard Champion, two sisters, Pauline Newell and Erma Reece, three brothers, Burley Champion, Charles Champion and Sidney Champion, Jr.

    Sad to hear of Mr Champion”s death. He did a lot of upholstery for me and I always enjoyed our conversations when at his shop. May God’s peace be with each one mourning.
